About Me

I am Maggie High, a California kid out to enjoy the ride while exploring the world. In June of 2011, my husband and I  left our 9-5 corporate jobs behind to explore the world. We started our journey in Suncheon, South Korea where we taught English for nearly a year and a half. Teaching was an incredible experience and we both learned a lot about kids, South Korean culture, and ourselves.

After Korea, we backpacked through SE Asia and India for 4.5 months, and then went home to visit family in friends in California for a few months. In July 2013, we moved to Australia for a year on a working holiday visa. We lived in Glebe, a charming little "village" of Sydney, and we fell in love with Australia.

In July of 2014 we embarked on our hardest and most epic journey yet: the Peace Corps. We are currently serving as Peace Corps volunteers in a small town called Durame in Ethiopia. We are both teaching high school English and trying to do as much as we can to make our service a success.

This blog is a way for me to document and share our experiences with our families, friends, and anyone interested in living an "alternative lifestyle." I want to show people that traveling isn't hard and the world is a great place worth exploring and protecting. I also want to give people insights into what it's like to be an expat and live in a foreign land.

National Geographic's tagline is: "Inspiring people to care about the planet since 1888." As soon as I read that I thought, "That's what I want to do." I want to inspire people to see the world and learn about people and other ways of thinking and doing things. I know this blog is (obviously) much smaller than National Geographic but I believe everyone can do something so I'm sharing our lives with you. I write my stories, hardships, goals, general musings, pretty pictures, lessons learned, and curiosities.

I hope you enjoy reading about our lives and adventures! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me at: maggieehigh (at) gmail (dot) com
